Vintage Pro Wrestling is our tribute to the All-Time Greats of Professional Wrestling.
While many of the mechanics of the game are quite similar to our poplar Ultra Quick
Wrestling game, there are enough changes that you should carefully read through the rule
changes before playing.

As with the 1973 Eastern Territory Set for Ultra Quick Wrestling, I felt that an All-Time
Great setting deserved a new set of charts, and a few modifications to the ratings to truly
capture a federation comprised entirely of great wrestlers. In a seasonal set, it’s very easy
to differentiate those that held the title for long periods from the mid-card performers and
“curtain-jerkers”. In an All-Time Great set, the vast majority of the wrestlers were
champions and/or Main Event performers. Without artificially influencing the ratings, I
wanted to come up with a way to separate the wrestlers, while still capturing the essence
of their in-ring persona. I think I’ve managed to do just that with the introduction of a
new set of charts, and by moving the result charts to each wrestler’s card. I have also
expanded the finishing moves of each wrestler to add more variety to the results.

I have chosen a mid-80’s time period as the setting for Vintage Pro Wrestling. I feel that
this era provides the ultimate compromise for the various eras in which each wrestler
competed. Ultra Quick Wrestling covers the modern wrestling era, and it just didn’t feel
right having Superstar Graham placed into modern type storylines. And while the 80’s
were certainly different than the 50’s and 60’s in terms of storylines, they are much closer
than modern professional wrestling. And placing current stars in an 80’s setting doesn’t
seem as “off” as the reverse.

Using an 80’s setting for the game, also allows more feuds to build and follow a natural
progression, rather than ending abruptly, which has a tendency to occur with the modern
Ultra Quick Wrestling Charts. By using an 80’s setting for the game, some feuds may
last for several months, instead of ending at the next PPV. Given that most of the
wrestlers represented are close in ability, I found this to be the most palatable solution.
